Terumo Cardiovascular Systems Signs Agreement to Acquire Orpheus High-Fidelity Perfusion Simulator Technology

Ann Arbor, Michigan — 12 March 2012 — Terumo Cardiovascular Systems (Terumo CVS) announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire the Orpheus Perfusion Simulator product line from Ulco Technologies, Sydney, Australia. This one-of-a-kind technology allows cardiac surgery professionals to practice perfusion procedures in a high-fidelity simulated setting.

The Orpheus simulator is the first commercially available perfusion simulator available in the U.S. market and a well known brand globally. It is a computer controlled model of the human circulation system, designed to recreate a variety of events which may occur during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery, and intended for use in the education and training of clinicians involved in the procedure.

Mark Sutter, President and CEO of Terumo Cardiovascular Systems, said, "The acquisition of the Orpheus technology demonstrates Terumo's continued commitment to the perfusion community and to the on-going education of perfusionists with state-of-the-art technology.”

Backed by Terumo's well established customer support network, Terumo can make the Orpheus simulator technology available to clinical professionals throughout the world.
